Vehicle Immobilisation SIA Training

Updated April 2010 to reflect SIA changes to training

In order to obtain an SIA licence you will need to show that you are trained to the right level. To get the qualification linked to vehicle immobiliser licensing you will need to attend and take three training modules and take and pass two exams. The course may be delivered over 5 days or during weekends and/or evening sessions. The duration of the training should be 27 hours.

The course is in the new modular format and incorporates the common security industry knowledge module, as well as a specialist VI module.

The course is delivered over five days and consists of classroom training, multiple choice examinations and one internally assessed practical test.

How long will it take?

Five days, with 27 hours of classroom learning. This will include three multiple choice examinations and a practical test.

What will the course cover?


Core Learning for Common Security Industry Knowledge (10 hours)

  • Session 1: Awareness of the Law in the Private Security Industry
  • Session 2: Health and Safety for the Private Security Operative
  • Session 3: Fire Safety Awareness
  • Session 4: Emergency Procedures
  • Session 5: The Private Security Industry
  • Session 6: Communication Skills and Customer Care

Vehicle Immobiliser Specialist Module (9 hours)

  • Session 1: Introduction to Vehicle Immobilising and Removals
  • Session 2: Understanding Signs, Enforcement Vehicles and Immobilisation Devices
  • Session 3: Understanding Vehicle Registration Marks and Vehicle Exise Duty
  • Session 4: Immobilising a Vehicle
  • Session 5: Vehicle Removal and Relocation
  • Session 6: Completing Records
  • Session 7: Use of Photography and Awareness of Technology
  • Session 8: The Payment and Appeals Process
  • Session 9: Radio and Mobile Communication
  • Session 10: Parking Schemes and Permits

Conflict Management Module (8 hours)

  • Session 1: Avoiding Conflict and Reducing Personal Risk
  • Session 2: Defusing Conflict
  • Session 3: Resolving and Learning from Conflict
  • Session 4: Application of Communication Skills and Conflict Management for Vehicle Immobilisers

The core learning for common security industry knowledge is interchangeable with other SIA qualifications. If you hold a previous SIA qualification you may be exempt from certain units, please call for advice.

Who will carry out the training?

Repton Training Limited has a number of trainers to deliver this qualification all of whom hold the 7303 Certificate in Delivering Adult Learning as well as the 1886 in teaching conflict resolution.

Please note that all trainers also have direct sector competence in the qualification being taught.

Where will the training take place?

It would be carried out at our purpose built training centre in Derbyshire.
